Flavor Experience

Organic Uganda Bugisu offers a rich, comforting cup with the sweetness and depth that make coffees from the slopes of Mt. Elgon so distinctive. In the cup, you'll discover notes of graham cracker, smooth cocoa, and warm brown sugar, creating a balanced coffee with satisfying body and a sweet, approachable finish.

The fully washed process enhances clarity and structure while allowing the coffee's natural sweetness and chocolate-forward character to shine. The result is a smooth, versatile single-origin African coffee that offers depth without sacrificing balance.

Whether brewed as drip coffee, pour over, French press, or espresso, Uganda Bugisu delivers an inviting specialty coffee experience for those who enjoy rich sweetness, cocoa notes, and a well-rounded cup.

Coffee Origin

This organic coffee comes from the slopes of Mt. Elgon in eastern Uganda, a region with a long and important connection to the country's coffee history. The name "Bugisu" comes from the Bagisu people native to the mountain's western and northwestern districts and has become closely associated with some of Uganda's most recognized Arabica coffee.

The region's coffee legacy stretches back generations. The Bugisu Cooperative Union, formally established in 1954, played an important role in bringing together local coffee producers and creating greater access to markets. Over time, the Bugisu name became synonymous with high-quality coffee grown by smallholder farmers around Mt. Elgon.

Today, coffee production in the region continues through thousands of small farms across communities surrounding the mountain. Quality-focused programs such as the Sipi Falls Coffee Project work with producers throughout the area to support coffee processing, traceability, and access to specialty coffee markets.

With its rich agricultural history and distinctive growing environment, Uganda Bugisu represents a unique expression of East African coffee—one characterized by approachable sweetness, substantial body, and a chocolate-forward profile that sets it apart from the brighter, more fruit-driven coffees often associated with the region.
